Strong Start to the Summer Season at Malta International Airport
Malta International Airport welcomed more than one million passengers in April 2026, marking a strong beginning to the summer travel season. Growth was driven by expanded flight connections with the United Kingdom and Italy, along with a significant rise in passenger traffic from several European markets, especially Poland.

With the launch of the summer aviation schedule, the airport is now connected to over 110 destinations. Italy continues to be Malta’s most connected market, with flights operating to 18 Italian airports, including an additional daily service to Rome. The United Kingdom follows closely behind with connections to 17 airports and increased flight frequencies to destinations such as London Gatwick, Glasgow, and Newcastle.

Improved UK connectivity helped make the British market the airport’s largest source of traffic in April, contributing just over 21% of total passenger numbers. Italy, Germany, France, and Poland also ranked among the top-performing markets. Poland recorded the most impressive growth, with passenger numbers increasing by nearly 60% compared to the same period last year.

In total, around 1.02 million passengers travelled through Malta International Airport during April, with the busiest day recorded at the end of the month. Despite the positive momentum, the airport continues to work closely with airline partners as the aviation sector adapts to ongoing operational and economic challenges.
